After five years of catching mice and chasing away pigeons in Huddersfield Station, Felix the cat has now been promoted to Senior Pest Controller.
This cat is no ordinary cat. She holds a highly respected position at Huddersfield Station, in West Yorkshire, England. Say hello to Felix.
Felix the feline is now Senior Pest Controller at the station. Along with the long due promotion, Felix was given a special uniform—a yellow high-visibility vest and a name tag courtesy of rail network TransPennine Express.
Felix was taken into the station back in 2011, when she was just a nine-week-old kitten. The staff thought she was a “he”, so they named her Felix. Eventually, when they discovered Felix was a female, the name still stuck.
For the past five years, Felix has spent her days patrolling the station’s platforms, intent on catching mice and any vermin that she spots, and chasing away pigeons from time to time.
The staff had cat flaps installed on some of the ticket barriers so Felix can come and go as she pleases.
This is a lifesaver for Felix, who wants to retreat to her cozy spots whenever she needs a break.
Sometimes she helps out with customer service from the inside.
Felix takes her job seriously. But when working hours are over, she prefers to remove her high-visibility vest so as not to attract more attention to herself. Or maybe, she just wants her precious alone time, like any normal cat.
Felix loves her Huddersfield Station family, and they treat her like a queen, or rather, a pampered station mistress.
Commuters enjoy their stay at Huddersfield station with her comforting presence. Sometimes, she’ll keep them company too.
Due to her loyalty and dedication, Felix the station cat has turned viral. She has her own Facebook page (Felix the Huddersfield Station Cat) and currently has over 51,000 followers.
She has fans visiting her at the station, eager for a photo-op or an interview. She has fans as far away as Japan.
Photos are common, but interviews rarely happen. Felix, still has a job to do, after all. Plus, she’s a cat. They’re allergic to one-on-one interviews.
Felix is always grateful whenever she receives fan mail and treats.
She loves the treats, especially.
According to a staff member, the fame hasn’t gotten to Felix’s head. She’s still doing awesome at her job and is as focused and dedicated as ever.
Congratulations, Felix! We wish for more happy years of service for you.
